By curving the faces of the straight-sided wedges of old, whole new placement options were opened up. What adding curves really accomplishes is setting up the triangulation (3 points of contact with the rock) between the nut and the rock. The Metolius Curve Nut is a constant angle taper but with a twist. So what you get is the advantage of the old style nuts (constant angle taper), easy to visually monitor placements plus, the advantages of curved faces which set up the bomber triangulation and allow for flares and irregularities in cracks.
